Google Launches Operating System for PCs
The new software, named the Google Chrome Operating System will be in netbooks for consumers in late 2010 and aims to make web applications easier to use.
Vice president of product management at Google said: “The operating systems that browsers run on were designed in an era where there was no web.
The Chrome OS is our attempt to re-think what operating systems should be”.
According to The Telegraph, Google are already working with a number of manufacturers to produce and distribute the system.
However, Microsoft Windows is currently installed in over 90% of people’s PCs. Google and Microsoft have often been in competition over the years in a variety of markets, from internet search to mobile software.
The success of this software will largely depend on whether Google can strike partnerships with PC makers, which currently offer Windows on most of their product lines.
If Google is successful in its mission, then the Chrome OS will be available on most Desktop and laptop computers, and let’s face it if anyone can do it super search engine Google can!
